So I have Mediacom Cable service and have had a neverending issue since I switched from AT&T DSL..which didn't lag. The issue is that the network spikes to a literal stop 5-10x per 30 minutes. We have had countless techs come to our house and resolve nothing. We have replaced our hardware numerous times. I can't tell you how many times we've been told by support that they would "look into it and/or fix the problem" which hasn't been fixed in about two years. All I want is reliable internet which seems near impossible with this ISP. We recently switched to the 100mbps plan from 50 because a support agent said it would be smoother, which was wrong.
