I'm working with someone whose Mediacom email is very, very slow to authenticate via POP. Testing against either mail.mchsi.com or mail.mediacombb.net:
$ telnet mail.mediacombb.net 110
Trying 97.64.187.40...
Connected to mail.mediacombb.net.
Escape character is '^]'.
+OK POP3 ready
USER user@mchsi.com
+OK
PASS *******
***there is about a two minute pause here***
-ERR internal server error
Connection closed by foreign host.
Sometimes (about once every ten tries) after the two minute pause it is possible to authenticate. However if I try my own account:
$ telnet mail.mchsi.com 110
Trying 97.64.187.44...
Connected to mail.mchsi.com.
Escape character is '^]'.
+OK POP3 ready
USER myself@mchsi.com
+OK
PASS *******
+OK server ready
QUIT
+OK dsmdc-mail-mbs12-svc.mcomdc.com closing connection
Connection closed by foreign host.
The authentication flies through instantly.
I know the user's username and password are good, since I am copying and pasting it and the username and password are acceptable at https://webmail.mediacombb.net/mediacomtoday . I have a tier 2 ticket waiting for Mediacom support (and unfortunately neglected to record the ticket number--it's on the user's computer) but am curious if there's anything else that can be done. I can provide the user's email address if it's possible to find the tier 2 ticket that way.
