Monopoly?

Technically speaking Mediacom has a monopoly on cable internet service in my area. That is the reason why I have awful internet service. Mediacom can change bills, provide poor service, and hire poor technicians all while keeping their wallets stacked. In this day and age internet is a necessity for most people so why do monopolies like this exist? I can't wait for competition to arrive and watch Mediacom be forced to actually provide decent service or be out of business because that is what will happen. Let's go over Mediacom etiquette so we can understand how they scam customers in areas without competition. Usually what happens is the frustrated customer will call or post on a forum about their lack of decent service. Say the customer calls, this is what happens most of the time. 1) Mediacom employee goes over trivial reset procedures and regardless if you've performed them they have you do it. After they reset the connection they tell you to call back if you experience any more issues. Of course you do. 2) So the reset did nothing and now you're calling back which they then either check signal levels that most of them can't understand and/or they schedule a tech visit. 3) Now you've made it this far so you expect to have your connection fixed right? They know this so the tech will attempt to fix any miniscule issue on your end and if he can he will call it fixed. If he can't then he will escalate the problem which most of the time does absolutely nothing or he will blame the router. 4) At this point if you have any other options (isps) to switch to most would but most people can't. 5) If you call or post again it means that you don't have any other options so all they do is repeat from step 1. This doesn't apply to all of Mediacom employees. I think there are exceptions but after dealing with them for years this is the cycle I've ran into countless times.
