So I was just browsing through mediacoms promotional offers and I saw that my current internet package 150mbps down, I am paying roughly 100 bucks a month for give or take. However, if you are a "new" customer it's only 71.44 a month, with NO CONTRACT.
Apparently, I am in a 2 year contract, but the rep let me know how to get out of the contract.
In order to break a contract, simply upgrade to something like the extreme 50 silver package, select the speed you would like, at 150mbps it would be 114.26 a month which includes tv, internet and phone service. There is a one time installation fee of 10 to 15 dollars depending on who you talk to. The website says 10 dollar one time fee, the rep said 15.
Either way, once you switch to that package, use it for a day, a month, a week, however long you would like and then cancel the service. Return the products at your local office.
Once this is done, call mediacom back and sign up for mediacom in your girlfriends name, *your name if it was in someone elses*, etc and you are instantly a new customer even though you are still at the same address. Different name = new customer. Then you can choose the ultra 150 down 20 up price at 71.44 a month including there wireless home networking.
You might ask why go through the hassle for saving roughly 30 bucks a month. Well, 30 dollars a month x 2 years of living here, is 720 dollars. That is a big savings.
I should make a note that there will be an installation fee added to the "new customer" which on the website is 49.99, but I know in the past it was waived for me and I know that price can be negotiated as well. So if I go through a little hassle I will save myself 720 dollars minus 50 bucks = 670 dollars in 2 years, or 335 a year.
This might not sound like much, but its a quick way to get out of a contract if need be for one and for two, if you are living in a house and not an apartment and you are stuck in a contract or are paying more than what you should be, this is the way to get out of it.
Luckily I got in touch with a nice rep to explain exactly how to get "around" the system in order to make this happen. He and I are both shocked that they offer such extreme discounts to new customers, compared to people who have been with them for over 15 years.
All in all, I really hope this helps someone out as much as it will me. I will be calling tomorrow to upgrade, then call the retention program to stop service since I will no longer be in a contract, and then I will call to start services in my name at the same address and save 30 bucks a month. Hope this helps and feel free to give me your opinions if this is wrong/right. I feel it's a shame mediacom is offering such drastic discounts to new customers. Also feel free to comment on what you pay for your ultra 150 plus thanks :)
