[RANT] 1 week wait for service tech?

My Internet is down, modem won't find any down stream channels. Called Mediacom and the rep said that until 10% of the customers in this market call in they will not confirm if there is an area wide outage. But due to a high volume of trouble calls, and the fact that they only come to my town 2 days a week, they can't help me before August 1st. And if I'm not home when they arrive they will leave without checking anything, even outside signals. Are they f-ing serious? I spent several months with crappy service earlier this year until they finally decided my modem was flakey and replaced it. I tried to call the area tech ops manager but the business cards he hands out to customers don't have the correct phone numbers on them (big surprise). Anyone else run into problems like this? I can have another broadband provider here tomorrow to install service, but their pricing is actually higher than Mediacom's. But they take trouble calls 7 days a week.
