Switch to Mediacom DNS and all speed issues gone. say what?

so after nearly two weeks, the bulk of it being since last weekend, I haven't had my 100mbps and signals were literally unusable. so since about 530am this morning and some last night I been doing a bunch of testing and in the end two things were necessary. 1) do a complete factory reset on your modem. on my Motorola modem it is called under the 'configuration' tab and is a button called 'Reset All Defaults' - this forces the modem to flush pretty much everything and relearn. pulling a new config and channels to bond. this gave me new channels and improved my signals back to what we all know as good (-6 to +6 dbmv for DOCSSIS 3.0) 2) SWitch to Mediacom's DNS servers in your router - I haven't used Mediacom's DNS servers in my router for ages, but on a whim I deleted them (the last few days I have rotated to several, google, level 3 and others and nothing changed) and switched to auto for DNS, which uses mediacoms DNS servers. - technically under manual internet setup you leave DNS servers blank and it uses what ever DHCP from your ISP gives it. instantaneously I started pulling 125mbps/12mbps for my 100/10 package. previously I ahd also tried an old MAC into my router from a device that is not used anymore (old router) and though I got a new IP, which, in the past had cleared up my issues, did nothing this time. it was only when switching to the Mediacom DNS servers did my speed and performance come back to normal. its plausible that there have been some switching going on in Mediacom's network and the other DNS servers around the USA have not fully updated, or something internally that Mediacom is doing and only they have the mapping, which would probably be borderline illegal if they did that, so I hesitate to suggest such a thing. but DNS servers was all it was for me.
