back story..
upgraded to 1 Gig internet through mediacom in June. Had to go out and buy a new router because the modem i was being given was just a modem and the router i had been using was like 6-8 years old..didnt even think about it needing replaced, heh.
For future reference this fancy modem was apparently a Technicolor tc4400
Bought netgear nighthawk..was thrilled except we got a faulty router the first time as it would frequently restart..blah blah..thanks to warranty they sent us a new box of the same variety and we were set! Yay! no more drops, perfect connection, excellent speeds etc..no complaints.
Then we moved into our first house in August...
First they insisted that i had to go with this other modem they had brought even though i insisted to them i had just upgraded 2 months prior so this was already a new enough modem, we had it tested and it was working with our router..tech says it was a fluke and now it will not work so i bite my tongue and let him install this (in comparison to the tc4400) big and bulky black POS... Apparently a Technicolor CGM423x...have had nothing but problems since.
Our internet is frequently dropping. It is 100% not the router and we cannot fix it by restarting or messing with the router. We always have to reset the modem itself..happens at least 5 times a day, but more often than not its more.. we are to the point of ripping our hair out (and with a first time home purchase, 4 kids, 2 kids under 2 and the internet a core part of our family practically you can understand how this feels like its going to end up with my husband or i murdering someone or at least eachother.
A tech has come out one other time besides the install..and im sorry but i cant remember everything he did but it was something regarding optimizing the situation because we only use internet and only ever will use internet so there was something he could do that would boost our service or some crap..he also put something in that he says was going to help drown out any noise etc that was interfering..
Didnt help. we have a tech scheduled to come out tomorrow but after two really bad techs one of which im really pissed at since he screwed with our set up and i blame him for this mess (he also took my precious modem so i couldnt just hook it back up myself..) I really dont want to risk another tech messing with us and leaving us in the same mess or an even worse situation..
We only have the mediacom technicolor modem and our nighthawk router, have already tried unplugging the nighthawk and completely disconnecting it from the set up and everyone plugged into modem or wirelessly on modem and it still drops as much as it ever has.
Help.
attaching the info that i can, please someone tell me wtf is going on.
Here are my current issues supplying you certain bits of information..I have no virus protection on except windows defender and i have no firewall up of any kind (even checked on the modem website itself and shut it off) and yet i cannot make my IP pingable apparently. So even though my problem is intermittent i cannot smokeping and i can only give so much info with the line quality test...
if someone can tell me how to fix the issue with being pingable i will gladly give the other info
Using windows 10
Other than windows defender i do not use virus protection ATM, and while trying to fix this any/all firewalls are off
I want to stress again that nothing has changed except this POS modem, and it is 100% the modem dropping, not the router.
