I've had Mediacom cable internet for about a year now without any major problems. We had really low speeds a while back, but they sent some techs to our house who discovered there was a problem at the pole and fixed it. Around a month ago, we started experiencing constant dropping of connection on all devices connected to the wireless network. When I say constant, I use the word advisedly. The up/down speeds themselves are great, but what good is that when you're constantly having to re-establish connections to the network?
We've had the modem replaced at least twice, but the problem persists. It's clearly not the modem. I spent almost an hour yesterday talking with tech support. The gentleman was very friendly and knowledgeable, but at the end of the day we still have constant drops. Our service was great for so long, that I refuse to believe I have to put up with the way things are now. Nothing on the network can talk to anything else on it for very long because everything keeps dropping off.
Another weird problem is that on the Wi-Fi control panel page, there are some kind of ghost devices showing up. I worked with the tech on the phone yesterday to make our network hidden, change the passcode, reset the modem almost ten times, and still these devices show up. Nobody here is named Vanessa or Jasmin; nobody has an iPhone; nobody has an X-boxOne, much less two. The control panel reports that the iPhones are connected via Ethernet! Clearly something is wrong. These devices began showing up at the same time we began having problems. The inference that the two are connected is almost inescapable.
What do I need to do for Mediacom to actually fix the issue?
