Hello!
I've had cable internet for about a year now without any issues, but starting a couple days ago I have started to see wildly fluctuating packet loss occurring on all hops. My interest in seeing how my packets were going started due to having issues with high latency in WoW, so talking with their tech people had me run a bunch of tests. Using tracert / pathping / winmtr started to show instances of packet loss starting on the very first hop; IP.client.mchsi.com, and occurring at every hop after.
I am fairly sure seeing such packet loss occurring at the first hop would mean something is wonky with my modem, right? I am using a Motorola SURFBoard, model SBG6580, and it has been working great up til now. I'm not sure how to go about seeing if this packet loss is because my modem is failing or if its something else. I have wi-fi disabled on the modem.
When I powered off the modem this morning, and plugged it back, I think the lights may have changed. I admit that I hardly looked at the modem after getting up and going last year, so my memory could be wrong. The current light setup shows green Power, Blue downstream, green upstream, and green Internet. For some reason, I am thinking the upstream light had always been Blue as well. My account speed is only "r60 Mb HSD", so having a green upstream light could be normal.
Any suggestions on how I might track down the issue? Thanks!
