I guess I'm just looking for advice. I've had Mediacom 1 gig service for almost 6 years now. Ever since it first launched in the area. It worked great at first and then when it rolled out to other areas, my speeds were so inconsistent and horrible. Eventually that corrected itself and I had the best internet connection for almost a year now and it's appeared again in the last 6 weeks.
A little about the issue. Almost every night around prime time ~7pm to 12am or maybe even later, my upload just completely tanks. My download is always great. I get anywhere around 800 to 950 Mbps at all times for download but my upload will be anywhere from 2 Mbps to 7 Mbps during this time frame. My jitter sometimes rises to about 50ms. In the mornings I get 60 Mbps upload and my speeds are amazing. This same pattern has repeated over and over again for many weeks.
I've contacted Mediacom many times. I've had 4 techs come out in the past 3 weeks and no one has found any issues. I've had the line outside replaced, new modem replaced, the caps changed outside, and the problem still happens. My modem sits 3 feet from the box in the back of the house and it was a line that Mediacom drilled into the house a little over a year ago. Of course when the tech comes, my speeds are the best ever because it's not during the for-mentioned time. I have another appointment scheduled on Saturday from 3-5pm but I feel like no one cares about resolving the issue or it's an issue that they don't want to resolve so they keep throwing me under the bus. I have an IT background so I'm clearly not obvious to troubleshooting everything inside my house.
I stream to twitch with my upload at night. It wouldn't be so much of an issue if I got like a constant 15 mbps but it's so flakey. I can't keep a constant upload speed at night.
I guess I'm just looking for advice. Is there anything I can do or log to help out? Mediacom tells me they aren't over saturated in my area so that shouldn't be the problem. The last message I got form someone on twitter literally said that 3.5 Mbps should be enough for twitch and that Mediacom doesn't guarantee any speed which is like a slap in the face. I was also told that speedtests shouldn't be a measure of speed but just a tool to help out and may not have the correct results even though it's literally Mediacom's speed test. I wish I could post logs from the modem but I have no clue what the default password is. I've tried the username/password for the default I could find online but none of them have worked. It's a samsung GX-MC990CL.
Thanks again!
