[IA] Internet keeps going out

Over recent months, we've had an issue with our internet going out (our tv service has not gone out, although there have been a few minor signal issues). It appears to always begin with a modem reboot (Motorola sb6121, owned by us). Sometimes the internet comes back on immediately once the modem resets, but sometimes the modem gets stuck with the send light flashing and it won't get back to normal again, with the internet working, for several minutes. This generally had only been occurring sparsely, but over the last month it has become more frequent. A couple weeks ago, one morning, the internet was in and out repeatedly for a couple hours and then it stayed out (modem stuck with send light flashing) for an hour. Most of the last couple weeks hasn't been too bad. Every now and then this would occur, sometimes a series of reboots. However, yesterday it got real bad. Beginning around noon, the internet was in/out repeatedly (same modem reboots). Around 6pm, the modem rebooted and it never came back to normal. Again, it was stuck with the send light flashing. Our internet was out for about 20 hours. Before calling Mediacom, I wanted to be sure the problem isn't our modem. Our neighbors, who get their signal from the same pole, say they've been having issues as well, but their service was NOT out last night into this afternoon. We also have friends a couple streets away. They've been having a few issues as well, but their service was also NOT out last night into today. They did call and say their service briefly went out right after I first called them today. I'm not sure what to make of this. I already ruled out the splitter and router. I was going to drive out to Mediacom here in Cedar Rapids, this afternoon, to borrow another modem to test, but just as I was preparing to leave, I checked the modem and the internet was back up after being down for 20 hours. For the next hour, the internet was in and out several times. It has now been up for about an hour. If I call Mediacom, they'll just set up a tech service appointment in 3-7 days, and then when the guy shows up he won't find anything wrong. I've been through that nonsense too many times. I was really hoping my neighbor was out all night and this morning, just like us. Then, I would know the problem is up the street somewhere and not my modem, and I could then call Mediacom and tell them that. The fact that my neighbor, while having some issues, was not out all night, makes the situation messy. Does anyone have an idea what the problem might be, or what I should do next?
