[IL] perfect signal but no internet

Earlier this summer Mediacom had to run a new line outside my house due to a big drop in speed. After that, everything was good until the day they buried the line. All of a sudden I had no Internet. The strange thing is, the lights on the cable modem were all on and NOT flashing. I tried my backup modem, and same result. Five days later the cable guy showed up, and he said there was nothing wrong with the signal, outside or inside my house. But he couldn’t get the Internet to work either, other than being able to bring up on the speed test that Mediacom was being detected as the provider. After an hour, he went back outside. At the tap he switched the cable line to a different port—suddenly my Internet was back. He told me he had no idea why that worked. 2 weeks later, again during the middle of the day my Internet completely goes out. Same problem as before. I walk outside and I see someone from Mediacom working at a spot outside down the street. I eventually call, and they are sending someone out on Tuesday. I am not very confident that they will know what to do to fix this situation. My cable modem is an Arris SB8200, which is displayed as an approved modem on Mediacom’s website. I also tried my older Arris modem, which worked fine a couple months ago, but it had the same result.
