Hello all, Long time! I come here when there is problems that do not get resolved.
Back in November we started to have loss of signal for Internet almost everyday twice a day for 1- 2 minutes. Could not surf the net at all.
It then progressed to having to reset the Modem, router and skype phone each time it happened or we could not get back online. Tech support in Gulf Breeze, Des Moines, and Missouri could see other modems offline on my card and also noise and wanted me to let the techs that came out know that maintenance should be called. Which I did but they never were told because the techs are not seeing any issues.
Also when this problem started (side note) the ped in my back yard had 2 new drops running to 2 houses and Mediacom left an unfilled hole...this is right next to the public sidewalk that runs behind our homes in the neighborhood. I told phone tech about this and also mentioned why 2 new drops? Was one bad and the other maybe they nicked when they were digging??? Thus the reason why 2 drops were put down? And did my line get nicked? They assured me NO that was not the issue and I was told I would not have any cable or internet if that was the case... OK No problem then.....
One tech told me that tier 2 told him it was my cable modem an SB5121 that was the problem. I said then why has 3 tele techs told me they see noise and other modems being affected on the same card? No answer.
This morning again we had no internet. So I spoke to Des Moines tech at 7:30 am. I asked the gal to please check my modem and she said I can communicate with it. So I asked her if that is true and I can not get online wirelessly or hard wired does the Linksys router have to be reset each time we have a spike in the line causing the modem to go offline for a little while? She didn't know. So....I told her to hold the line and told her I was Just going to reset the modem for curiosity to see if I could get back online. ( I did not pull the plug on the router or skype phone) After plugging the modem back in still could not get online hard wired or wirelessly. Smart phone could see the wifi but still said authentication error.
I then told her normally I unplug everything to get back online. Starting with plugging the modem in first let it sink up then the router then the skype phone. All all works again.
I told her next time this happens I will call again to make sure you can communicate with the modem and then just UNPLUG the router to see if that works to get me back online.
What I am doing is trying to figure out why Medicom is not fixing this issue.
One tech that came out Ryan told me he spoke with tier 2 and they told him its my modem. Something about the card with a read of 28 and my modem had 18. When I asked him if he asked tier 2 if other people on the same card are also having problems he said well no I didn't ask them to check that. Grrrrr. LOL....
But to me if I am also having tiling on the TV (not bad) once or twice in an hour then that tells me we have something else going on. I have also had the DVR saying NO service a week ago and had to have tech support send a hit to it. Maybe its my equipment and Mediacom. No one wants to think their equipment is going bad of course....But the last tech that was here told me to call the manager since I know him as he is above his manager to get maintenance out here. I do not want to do that. I am a confused PAYING customer at this point. I also know my neighbors when having a problem have told me in the past they do not call it in....so I remain the PEST I guess being maybe one of the only ones that call. I figure I am paying for the service so I would like and expect it to work.
I do have a question for you techies that know routers. Typically when you have a poor signal that throws your modem off at times (because tele tech has told me my modem reset over night 31 times) when you have no internet do you really need to reset all devices like the modem and router to get you back online?
I mean does the router stop working proper when the modem has had some signal issues thus needing a reset too by pulling power?
Thanks all!!!
Larry
