[IA] Speeds with a Residential Gigabit Connection

I am hoping you all can help me. I recently got set up for a gigabit connection with Mediacom and have been unable to reach high speeds consistently. I have an Arris Surfboard SB8200 with a Ubiquiti ERPoe-5 behind it, with my LAN connected through the router. I run continuous speedtests through a Docker container (atribe/speedtest-for-influxdb-and-grafana) but I have never gone above 733 Mbps DL, and my average speed over the last 13 days has been 480 Mbps DL. UL is avg 55 Mbps and max 69 Mbps, which is fine and what I am provisioned for. I understand there is networking overhead and my router should lose a little bit of the speed, but consistently losing half of the speed I am provisioned for is excessive. I would be satisifed with a consistent 750-800 Mbps DL. Even testing directly through the modem is only a little better. You may experience intermittent disruptions with your services due to the extreme cold weather in your area. Intermittent issues such as channel distortion, slow internet speeds, or dropped connections caused by extreme cold temperatures will usually subside once the temperature normalizes. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you and thank you for being a Mediacom customer. Please stay Safe!

I'm interested in upgrading my 28.8 kilobaud Internet connection to a 1.5-megabit fiber-optic T1 line. Will Mediacom be able to provide an IP router that's compatible with my token-ring Ethernet LAN configuration?

[Cable TV] Incorrect TV Programming Listings Shown as Repeats but are New

If you DVR “Victoria” on your PBS channel, the NEW episode 4 was listed as a repeat for Sunday Feb 3rd 8 pm ct, and didn’t record. Also, if you look at next Sunday’s Feb 10th listing in your DVR/cable box guide for Victoria, you’ll see episode #5 at 8pm ct listed as a repeat too, which is incorrect. Let’s see if Mediacom can contact their 3rd party guide data before Sunday Feb 10th, 8pm.

Gigabit speed check?

I have gigabit internet from Mediacom. No matter what device I use to test it with, nothing is reporting anything close to the "right" numbers. This very laptop I'm composing this message on connected directly to the modem never saw a test over 225Mbps, the techs laptop tested near 800Mbps. It was repeatable. My Fing box sees nothing over 200Mbps, in fact, no device except my Xbox One X will return a result over 225Mbps. It has once reported over 700Mbps since the install but the last time I ran it only reported about 335Mbps. I know that speed tests are not some ultimate diagnostic tool, but they do help give at least a "general health" indicator. Does anyone have any ideas, solutions, or similar experiences?

[GA] GeoIP incorrect

Hi all, I work from home, and my company is getting GeoIP alerts stating that I am in Iowa, when I am actually in Georgia. We don't employ in the state of Iowa. My team lead confirmed that is a minor issue, but one we'd like resolved. I've worked in ISP support in the past and I know IP blocks CAN be transferred from one GeoIP to another, and that it takes time for the GeoIP information to update. This has been occurring since 01/25/2019, according to our records. uid://1705265, any insight into this?

[Cable HSI] DNS Problems with Mediacom Servers?

I had a typo on a web url, and instead of getting the Mediacom branded redirect, I got a 'search.xerocole.com' page. I went to http://www.crh.noaa.gov/lsx/?mystation=KJEF (Known dead page without redirect) and was sent to this: http://searchguide.xerocole.com/search/?q=http%3A//www.crh.noaa.gov/lsx/%3Fmystation%3DKJEF&r=&t=0 I went through all the gyrations of clearing my cache on my PC and router, and was able to verify that the incorrect redirect happens when I use 108.166.149.3 or 97.64.168.10 as DNS Servers for my router. 108.166.149.2 and 108.166.149.3 are the current DNS Servers that we are getting here in Mid-MO. (IP Segment=104.166.224.0/255.255.240.0) I ended up having to set Level 3 and Google DNS Servers as my primary and secondary DNS servers on my router so that I can get to http://search.mediacomcable.com/prefs.php. Can someone in Mediacomville take a look at this? uid://1705265: Can you have someone check things? Is anybody else seeing the same thing? Thanks. KA0OUV (Tim)

After the insane sub zero temps we had a week or so ago, I've been seeing ok download speeds (100/10 service) but horrendous upload speeds (1.5mb has been normal). Are there any issues in the Quad Cities area since then? I've tried multiple modem resets, etc. https://www.speedtest.net/result/8030198835.png

[RANT] Weather knocking out the signal, Mediacom refuses to fix

Here's the situation. In 2017 we began getting tv signal degradation when it rained. It wasn't too bad, so we just put up with it. Later last year, however, it became worse and very annoying. We would get garbled channels and lose a bunch of channels on more tvs. A tech came out and replaced several connectors inside the house and also replaced the line going from our house to the pole. Those changes did improve the symptoms, but we've still had some signal degradation to this day. The tvs behind an additional splitter are the ones most affected, as expected. Now, the new and bigger problem. Two weeks ago, when the "polar vortex" plunged down into Iowa, the Mediacom signal suddenly went out completely when the temperature reached about -20 degrees and the wind was howling at about 1:30am. The signal remained out for 2-3 days(Tuesday night until Thursday night or Friday morning). We've learned that the next door neighbors also have Mediacom internet-only service and they went out at the same time. The house next to them, however, did NOT go out. Nor did the house across the street. Nor did our friends two streets over in the other direction. Of course, we called Mediacom and got a tech scheduled to come out the next Tuesday. When the temperature finally rose back to around zero degrees Thursday night or Friday, the Mediacom signal began to flicker back on. When the temperature continued to warm through the weekend, all the way up into the 30s and 40s, the signal remained mostly on with only an occasional very brief garbling or outage. However, on Tuesday morning (this is now last week), the temperature fell to about 15 degrees again and the signal once again went out completely. Unfortunately, by 11:30am, when the Mediacom tech came to our house, the temperature had warmed to about 22 degrees and the signal was back on. The tech, of course, came into the house and checked things and then climbed the pole outside to check up there. Of course, he did not find anything wrong, so he couldn't do anything to help. He gave me his personal work phone number and said to call him the next time the signal went out. Frankly. I should have immediately made another appointment for Friday because I knew it would be very cold again and the signal would likely go out again. Well, it didn't wait until Friday. On Thursday morning we received a bunch of freezing rain. The temperature was in the upper 20s, so the signal did not go out completely, but the rain, as always, caused degradation in the tv signal. By noon, behind the big storm, the temperature crashed quickly. When the temperature dropped below about 20 degrees, the tv and internet began flickering out again. When the temperature dropped into the low teens, the signal was out completely. The temperature remained near zero through Friday and into Saturday morning and the signal remained out completely that entire time. The next door neighbors were also out. I tried calling the Mediacom tech's phone, but he never answered. I tried 20+ times over two days. I called Mediacom to tell them what's going on and begged them to send a tech that day (Friday) because the signal was out and that was the perfect time to come and save us both a lot of future trouble and wasted time. The customer service rep said they couldn't do it. I went ahead and made another appointment for this Wednesday morning when it's expected to be cold again. I then learned the neighbors called and made an appointment for Monday, this morning. Back to the signal, of course on Saturday, when the temperature warmed up to about 10 degrees, the signal once again began flickering back on. For several hours, as the temperature gradually warmed to 15 and then 20, the signal continued to flicker on and off, but gradually remained on for longer periods. Once the temp remained above 20 Saturday evening, the signal remained on, with only an occasional blip. The temperature has remained in the 20s since then and will be near 30 through tomorrow, Tuesday, so of course the signal has remained on and mostly good. A Mediacom tech came to the neighbors' house this morning, but of course he found no problem. I went over and told him all of what has been going on and how it's only affecting my house and the next-door neighbors' house because we get our lines from the same utility pole. The neighbors next to them use a different pole so they've had no problems at all. I told the tech there MUST be something wrong with Mediacom's equipment up on the pole and that the weather is obviously getting into the signal. Unfortunately, as I totally expected, he told the neighbors he couldn't find anything wrong and then left because there's nothing he can do. This is absolutely maddening. At this point we are beyond fed up. There is no excuse for this garbage service. There is very clearly something wrong, but Mediacom refuses to fix it. Their attitude is basically, if the service in on when the tech arrives, too bad, sucks to be you (of course these appointments have to be made days ahead of time because Mediacom doesn't have the people to go out the same day). We still have yet another tech scheduled to come out Wednesday morning, so I'm PRAYING the signal is out at that time. For God's sake, Mediacom, why do you refuse to simply send someone to replace the equipment up on the pole?!? We've been customers for many years, sending $200 a month into Mediacom's pockets. Bleeping do something about this!!!

[DE] Internet randomly has high packet loss

I have the 60gb internet with Mediacom, and it randomly spikes high packet loss. It really seems to happen when I'm in a gaming session. It could be fine for a half hour, and it'll just randomly go out and back in instantly. Technicians came out twice last year, swapped modems, adapters, tested signal strength, etc. The issue was never resolved. It's an issue I've had for over a year. I even dropped Mediacom for Verizon DSL a couple months ago due to it. The DSL has been stable, but unfortunately too slow for gaming and streaming, so I recently switched back to Mediacom. I don't have any issues streaming or watching shows with Mediacom, but if I'm in the middle of a gaming session and it goes out, it's extremely frustrating. I can't be disconnecting randomly. I'm hardwired from the modem into the pc. I have no idea what the issue can be, I've tried different pcs, wifi, ethernet cords, settings, everything. speed test: Computer: Alienware R7, Windows 10, i7 8700, 16gb...... I use a ping plotter tool, and attached an image to give an idea of what I'm getting.

[AL] Issues with Tivo Updates?

starting to get frustrated here.. anyone else having issues with the tivo updates? i have 2 pace units and 3 minis... The minis have updated just fine and seem to be working for the most part (the guide is not working properly) I assume the guide issue is due to the main unit not being upgraded yet.. i have verified that moca is working properly.. i rebooted my modem, waited for it to come up, rebooted my tivo boxes.. if i attempt to test tivo connection, it gets past the preparing step (good sign, have internet connectivity), then on 2nd step sits at negotiating for awhile before coming back and saying Problem with service.... at the Tivo central screen it gives err C133, which indicates an issue with the tivo service.. i called support and the first person wasnt interested in helping beyond telling me i have to reboot my modem.. since that was going nowhere, i asked to talk to their tivo specialists.. i got forwarded to tivo partner support, who basically said i needed to be a technician to troubleshoot.. i called back in to mediacom support and got a more reasonable tech.. she confirmed everything i was seeing.. said its an issue with the upgrade.. and offered to push the upgrade to me, but that it could take up to 72 hours... at this point.. Im wondering if Im just waiting 72 hours to call back in because nothing changed... or if Im just waiting to get lucky and it finally get through and upgrade... Anyone else run into this issue during the upgrade? Any suggestions on how to resolve? update available anywhere to download and just flash off a thumb drive? ;)

So, I'm aware that it's going to take a good long while to get internet service again in my area thanks to Hurricane Michael, but any form of an ETR would be great. Like, are we looking at it not being restored until Spring of 2019 or... what?

[MO] Troubles with baselining modem

I've had Mediacom since 2012, and have been happy so far with the service... Billing/Accounting is another story. After several billing problems arose because of a mislabeled modem I had purchased, mediacom finally sent me a replacement to swap out. Again, the replacement modem (TC8503C) was replacing one that I had already purchased from them back in 2015, so I own it. When I initially got it, the modem was base lined, and I had no problems logging in, disabling WIFI, putting it into gateway mode, etc. My husband neglected to inform me that he setup paperless billing, so the bill didn't get paid for 2 months, so mediacom throttled my connection. I dropped in to chat with tech support, and found out the bill hadn't been paid, paid it and they reactivated the modem. I immediately noticed a certificate error that occurred when I went to login to a web app I host locally but is reverse proxies through a domain I own. I check my DDNS settings on my router, and realized that IP address of the WAN was a local IP address, and not the ip address of my gateway. I tried logging into my modem, typing the usual ip address, and realized my modem was no longer base lined and I was being redirected to homewifi.mediacomcable.com. I immediately called tech support who initially told me the modem was base lined and couldn't explain why it was redirecting me. They finally realized that it was not and after about 45 minutes of them trying something, having me reset it, and it still routing me to the mediacom site, they decided they didn't know exactly what to do and it needed to be escalated. My question being, does anyone have any history dealing with this issue, what did they get done and how long did it take? Also, does anybody know where I can get a hold of a generic firmware for the TC8503, or should I just throw it on ebay and get a different modem all together to prevent this from happening again? I have great connectivity, 500/30 flat with every speedtest with minimal downtime for $60 a month is pretty good for this area. Any suggestions?

Have been watching "Project Blue Book" on the History Channel and never had a problem until now. It's telling me I need to Re-Authenticate in order to watch on my Chromebook. Before when i watched the first episode it asked me who my cable provider was and I clicked on Mediacom and it worked fine. When I go it asks me for my Activation Code. Anyone know what this is and where I can find this "code"? Never had to enter this before. Thanks for the help!
