Still use docsis 2.0 modem on Prime?

So I was asking Chad some questions but we really didn't get anywhere other than wanting to talk on the phone. I don't like talking on the phone unless I absolutely have to. Was contemplating switching my dad from centurylink 10mbps/768kbps service for $74 (yes that's not a typo and no they won't go down on price) to the $89.95 prime plus and TV package. He currently has DirecTV and has no issues with it. Problem with mediacom is I can provide a modem so I wanted to know if the modem fee was then waived and I can provide a TiVo 4 tuner premier so I wanted to know if a cablecard would be substituted for the 1 free HD box that mediacom provides with TV service. I'm not sure I got a straight answer for either of them. Then there's a $10 activation fee, $74.99 install fee (even though I'd have everything pre-wired, tech would have to connect line that's already there, check signal, install cablecard and activate modem. Certainly not worth $74.99 in my opinion but oh well... I live in charter land, they only charge $29.99 for an install. Anywho long story short, I called DirecTV for my dad to find out when his contract is up, found out it won't be until June, but ironically enough DirecTV has a promotion with Mediacom for internet and he could get prime (all he'd need) for $34.95 for 12 months then $44.95 after that. He'd also get $10 off his DirecTV bill. So he's very interested in going this option. My big question out of all of this is I've already given him a docsis 2.0 modem (sb5100.) Since it's only 15mbps on Prime does mediacom still allow you to use docsis 2.0 modems or would I have to give him a docsis 3.0 modem? I have a spare one but don't really want to give it up if I don't have to as it's my backup in case something happens to my modem. Any straightforward answers would be appreciated. Thanks!
