Mediacom maintenance beats me to the punch...

$

I had been steadily watching my SNR slowly drift downward for over a month, edging its way to the point where the noise would start winning, and packet loss would begin. However, a 6hr outage during the maintenance window last night appears to have addressed the issue. [att=1] (the black line is outdoor temperature) Current power levels also indicate that I should be able to remove one of my 3dB pads.

[IA] gigabit incorrect speeds. unstable connections

problem 1. incorrect speeds pay for gig getting 200/60. was getting around 500 up til last week. now never goes over 200 problem 2. random slowdowns to 1mb or loss of internet altogether. this occurs both through router and hard-wired into the modem. signal fluctuates as much as 7 dbs in a matter of hours from +3.5 to -3.5 on channel 2. high uncorrectable (100k in 24 hours) common. 2. ground block to 2 way, 1 leg to room and tv, other to other room where 2 way, 1 leg to modem other to tv. Linksys EA6500 router. pc hardwired into the router and has been into the modem for testing. 3. technicolor 4400am - Software Version SR70.12.16 4. https://i.imgur.com/Am263ZF.jpg. this is 30 hours. Normally other channels have significantly higher correctable/uncorrectable. this is not consistent, changes between restarts, depends on how long before I reset. I have been having to reset nearly everyday lately to keep somewhat stable connections. - at the time of posting this i can hit refresh every 10 seconds on the site and the uncorrecatble # for channel 2 will jump by 1k minimum errors. 5. dslr will not finish gigabit test upload for results. live results where 200/60. windstream ss here - https://i.imgur.com/ryOsJRT.png 6. https://i.imgur.com/zgF1Zbd.png 7. windows 10, latest update 8. cant get this to start. have opened for ping requests but still wont go through. I will keep trying. 9. windows defender, stock with latest windows 10 update

[IA] 1 Gig service stability issues

Hi everyone - I switched to Mediacom's 1 Gig service in September. Since then i've documented over 30 instances where the modem cycles (there's been more but i got lazy writing them down), have had 4 onsite techs, rewired everything from tap to wall, switched out 3 modems and power supplies and called into tech support >10 times. Even with all of this hassle i'm still encountering reoccurring outages. The curious thing is that the modem reports its system up time as still up even after the modem cycles (no reset in timestamp) - but i know it's the modem because the lights on the front reset and do their blinky thing as it's restarting. I'm attaching mu current modem settings - I'm using the Technicolor tc4400 modem with a Netgear Orbi mesh system. Nothing here looks bad to me, except maybe the upstream power values might be a bit low.... Thoughts? Any one else have issues of reoccurring local downtime like this?

Giga install fail, possibly modem bricked from provisioning?

Tech came out to setup my giga. I bought my own ARRIS SURFboard SB8200 DOCSIS 3.1 modem. Plugin modem, lights up, tech calls mediacom, they provision modem. All lights appear to be on ow as they should be, no internet. We power cycle the modem, now all I get is a green power light, nothing else works. Tech says faulty modem, but I am having issues with that since it was doing what it was supposed to prior to the provisioning. Odds are I will have no problem getting this modem swapped out, but just curious if there's anything i can do in the meantime to test this out, fix, or prevent from happening to my next modem.

Looking for some help. I want to enable IPV6 on my Asus RT-AC68P router running Merlin irmware. Asus says to check with my ISP, but I can't find any information on the MediaCom support site. What connection type do I use? I have the choice of Native, Static, Passthru, Flets ipv6 service, tunnel 6to4, tunnel 6in4, Tunnel 6rd. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer!

Ok, just curious if this is widespread. Open a command prompt. Type in: ping 8.8.8.8 -t (enter) Let that run for an hour, then press control+c... Report what your packet loss is. I haven't had better than 2% loss in the last 2 months, which is unacceptable service. Right now, I'm hitting 6%.

[Cable HSI] Low speeds, packet loss and ping spikes.

I've had 3 techs out in the last 2 months. The first one literally swapped out the garbage Technicolor Docsis 3.1 modem that I was sent as a replacement for my old TC8717 with another TC8717, then left. The second tech came out and said the wiring from the junction box outside my house to the outlet inside where the modem sits is bad and needs to be replaced. He also changed the fittings on the coax line inside behind the wallplate and made a new coax cable from the wallplate to the modem. Said it would probably cost $150 to fish a new cable through the wall. Before trying that, I decided I'd take the modem outside and bypass the interior wiring, and what do you know, the exact same problems were still occurring. Third tech comes out, says the interior wiring is fine and so is the wiring to the pole. He changes the coax fittings at the junction box, checks the tap on the pole(which was loose) and swaps out the modem. Internet is decent, 155Mbps/25Mbps with ethernet, 120Mbps/25Mbps with Wifi. I'm still have packet loss and ping spikes up to 1500ms. Prior to having these problems I would see 240Mbps/25Mbps with Wifi, and around 255-265Mbps/30Mbps with ethernet. About a week ago, I was watching Netflix at night and noticed some buffering and would sometimes drop to SD for a few minutes. I didn't think anything of it. Then, it started happened nearly every day I would try and stream Netflix or any other streaming service. So, this morning I decide to run a speed test and see if everything is still working. Sure enough, I'm getting 40-50Mbps/1-8Mbps with Wifi. I haven't checked with ethernet, but it's probably not much better. I have 3 WinMTR traces ran for 5 minutes for 3 different websites. [Cable HSI] Unable to log in to Mediacom email, unable to reset password

This weekend my email client started giving me 'LOGIN failed' errors when trying to check my Mediacom email account. I figured it might just be a temporary outage and left it alone. The error is still occurring today so I figured I'd try to log in to the Mediacom portal and reset the password or whatever. Well that didn't work either. My username and password didn't work and I certainly haven't changed them and I use a password manager so I'm pretty sure the issue isn't on my side. So I tried to reset my password and I was given the following error after I answered the secret question: Account verification error : User with mcc user id : [redacted]@mediacombb.net not found ! Help me uid://1705265 you're my only hope!

Super slow when it’s in. Now it’s dropped me completely it seems. What gives... :/ Seems I’ve had more issues pop up since moving to giga. Could be coincidental but just sayin :( Reset network, went to look at phone app to see if there’s an outage, apparently that gutted and made that just about worthless now. Yay...

[Cable HSI] New 1Gig Install need some advice!

Today I upgraded from the 200Mb service to the 1Gig along with home phone and Tivo (also 2 tivo mini's). They installed a new modem (Samsung Gx-mc990cl) that has MoCA, phone and router all built in and also Docsis 3.1. My problem is I have no access to the router/modem so I am unable to bridge to my $400 router right next to it. When I go to 192.168.100.1 I get a login request and have tired all the default stuff with no luck. I guess my main question is, is it even possible to bridge since the MoCA network runs through the router as well? Right now I have my router plugged into one of the cable modem/router ports and its just getting a 192.168 address and everything connecting to it is very intermittent and slow. Any advice is would be greatly appreciated!

[Cable HSI] Slow speed trouble calls

I know most of you guys are above average when it comes to being tech savvy. I'm still posting this hoping it may help someone understand few things about speeds and save you some money. More on this later. With increased speeds you need to make sure you have hardware that can handle it. Mediacom's 3.1 gateways can deliver the speed. Mediacom overprovisions their modems and provides higher than advertised speeds most of the time. They have been on top of their game and utilization has not been an issue for years now. For those of you that don't know, this means there is enough bandwidth for everyone during peak time usage. First of all let me say this, for regular web browsing you won't see any difference if you have 100, 200, 500Mbit or 1Gbit connection. If you have more users online at the same time chances are you will upgrade your speed due to data caps and not really because you need the speed increase. If you are having problems with your connection, upgrading your speed will almost never resolve any issues. There are no ways to guarantee any minimum speed over WiFi. None. Mediacom offers moca extenders that work great (being hardwired they don't limit your speed like wireless extenders) but there are additional rental fees. They call this WiFi 360. When testing your speed, do it over hardwired connection with a decent piece of ethernet cable, gigabit ethernet port and a decent CPU. Use http://speedtest.mediacomtoday.com 100 Mbit customers will test around 130, 200 Mbit around 260, 500 Mbit around 570 and 1 Gbit around 940 Mbit due to gigabit ethernet port limitation. These are hardwired speeds. On WiFi it really depends on your device. For 1 Gbit service best results are on Apple computers with decent CPUs. From my experience I see 600 to 800 Mbit over WiFi in the same room, most phones will test 250 to 450 Mbit, not just iPhones but high end Android devices. Techs are told to set up 2 separate SSIDs for 2.4 and 5G networks. You should always use 5G network on any device that can see it. Not all devices will, 2.4G will deliver 40-60 Mbit on average, in apartments much lower. Yes, 2.4G has better range but even with more bars it is much much slower. Gamers. Ugh...go hardwired whenever possible! If you are playing a multiplayer game that doesn't have dedicated servers, chances are you may occasionally end up in a game where your connection to the host is less than optimal. It sucks but that's the way it is. It sucks even more if one of your gaming buddies and you can't play together because one of you always lags when the other is the host. I have done many speed trouble calls and I would say probably 1-2% are people with actual issues that require a fix, either a bad modem, wiring issue, account issue etc. Most common problem is unrealistic expectations, followed by underpowered hardware. Also just because you are paying for 1 Gbit service it doesn't mean you will be able to get this speed on every server. I've had people complain their streaming service from India is buffering, the built in speed test showed 3 Mbit speed while their modem was provisioned for 200 Mbit service. Of course services like Netflix and Amazon Prime streamed just fine in the same home. There is nothing a cable tech can do about this problem but of course the company told them to contact their ISP. Now about service fees. Mediacom has changed the service fee policy and it is no longer up to techs to determine if people get charged or not. Well that is unless the tech is being dishonest about the work he did.

[Cable HSI] Getting 0.1 Mbit or slower on 100 Mbit line in middle of night

$

I've been living in a new apartment for less than a month now. For the past week or two we've been having slow downs in the middle of the night on our 100 Mbit connection. The speeds will drop all the way down to an abysmal 0.1 Mbit or lower for stretches of time greater than 10-15 minutes. The connection will come back to full speed, but will drop back off. Edit: I can watch YouTube videos and get connection speeds of about 3-7 Mbit/s(Looking at Stats for Nerds). When I do any kind of speed test whether it's Google's, SpeedTest's, etc, the download speed is always less than 1 Mbit/s and the upload 1-20 Mbit/s. My bad connection has been persisting now for over an hour and after to modem power cycles. Edit:2 I'm directly connected to the modem/router with ethernet and a gigabit connection between M/R and PC. My area code is 31709.

[Cable HSI] (Not Solved) Any Ideas on What's going on with this?

Rebooted the modem 12 hrs ago. Channel 2 (channel ID 1) is always high in corrected & uncorrected. That channel would be just above the top end of the FM band. I've seen the corrected number for this channel above 7,500,000 in a span of maybe 3 weeks. Our normal monthly usage is around 80GB. This has been going on for the past several months.

Hey guys, I recently moved to a new place in Davenport Iowa. I had gigabit at my old place and I do here as well at the new town house. The wife was having a few issues with slowing down / pages timing out and I had some disconnect issues. I decided to login to clear access and see if anyone was on the network. I don't know anything about tivo or moca, but I am seeing A LOT of devices on my modem. I am using mediacoms docsis 3.1 technicolor modem currently. I am showing devices online 8. Out of these 8 devices, 2 of them are ours, the other 6 are amazon/tivo devices that I have no idea what are. They just say "online moca" when hovering over them. Can someone explain what these are for me? Also, I am getting ready to upgrade to the cm1000 modem. Now that they have been out for awhile, are they pretty good? It's a decent chunk cheaper than the sb8200 currently (especially with the coupon that I have). I can get it for about 135 brand new in the box currently. Let me know if you think its a good idea. Thanks for the help guys.

Why does having the 1Gb or the 500Mb service, REQUIRE a tech visit when I already have my own SB8200 Modem? Can't they not just push the config file out especially I had the 1 Gb before Downgraded to save some $ then for $10 upgraded? Its scheduled for Tuesday but still I think is kind of stupid time waister for all.

[Cable HSI] Saturday my modem started giving me a 172.31.7 IP and nothing works

Like the subject says, I used to have a 50.81 IP for the longest time. Saturday morning while I was away my Internet stopped working. When I got home, my router was getting a 172.31.7 IP from DHCP. I'm on 1GB using a Technicolor TC4-4400AM. I've never had issues before. When I called tech support they reset my modem and when they looked at my account it for some reason said I had homeWiFi through Mediacom, which I have never had. They weren't able to help and now my cable modem keeps reseting in a loop. They say it is a signal issue and they are sending a tech out on Tuesday. Has anyone else seen this issue? Its almost like I'm sandboxed.
