Mediacom outage in Mid-Missouri

$

I work from home and I’ve had two outages this week, but they seem to be really small and contained to my neighborhood only. None of my co-workers are having any connectivity issues and they live just a few minutes away. Mediacom support was unable to tell me how big the outage is or when it will be back up. I’m reliant on their services to work. This sucks. Any details regarding the size of the outage would be good to know so I can pass the details along to my supervisor.

On the lighter side here but I wished Mediacom would make a new TV commercial to run through the day. Its the same one over and over again.

[DE] Unstable latency

I've tried to be cool about the current latency issues I'm facing, but it's been weeks of excuses and going on 7-8 service calls to my house in a month at this point. Most recently we ran a fresh coax line from the modem (mediacom supplied) to the drop line outside the house. The drop line from the pole was installed back in late October/Early November. I've been running trace routes in IPv4 and routinely seeing issues at Mediacom hop points. C:\Users\Eric>tracert /4 /h 50 google.com Tracing route to google.com [172.217.165.46] over a maximum of 50 hops: 1 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms 192.168.0.1 2 205 ms 10 ms 129 ms 50-81-138-1.client.mchsi.com [50.81.138.1] 3 256 ms 103 ms 65 ms 172.30.28.81 4 40 ms 37 ms 37 ms 68-66-73-68.client.mchsi.com [68.66.73.68] 5 28 ms 49 ms 45 ms po10.atlga001er1.mchsi.com [68.66.72.29] 6 45 ms 35 ms 44 ms 72.14.208.56 7 36 ms 35 ms 45 ms 108.170.249.161 8 44 ms 42 ms 51 ms 209.85.246.231 9 48 ms 46 ms 34 ms pnatla-aa-in-f14.1e100.net [172.217.165.46] Trace complete. Maintenance is continuing to deny any hardware issues but I believe the trace routes show otherwise. There is a glaring infrastructure issue here and nobody is willing to do anything about it. I cannot keep entertaining 2+ tech visits a week. I had these same issues on my Netgear CM1200 modem and Netgear RAX120 router. The issue has been ongoing since service began.

What speeds on the mediacom system is a Technicolor TC8715 modem/r

my mother has mediacom Xstream and they recently upgraded the speeds on her service to I think it is 300/30. Is this modem capable of the speed upgrade? If so how much faster can it handle?

[IA] Mediacom unusable SW Cedar Rapids...

Up until a few nights ago, my internet was amazing (1gbps service), but for the past few nights, my internet has become completely unusable...losing connection, speed often 2Mbps, timing out when connecting to hosts, . I haven't heard from Mediacom about any issues in my area, but I can't log into their site, and even a speedtest to speedtest.mediacom.com yields results like this: Ping: 110 Jitter: 113 Download: 2.3mbps Upload: 0.3mbps Is anyone else seeing this? Thanks!

[IA] Unstable Connection .. latency spikes

ONCE AGAIN MEDIACOM ISSUES ARE BACK. 6 GOD DAMN YEARS IVE BEEN AT THIS ADDRESS AND I HAD ISSUES 80% OF THAT TIME. CALLING CUSTOMER SERVICE IS A WASTE OF TIME. THEY NEVER SEE ANYTHING WRONG AND THINK THAT POWER CYCLING THE MODEM FIXES EVERYTHING. BOUGHT 3 MODEMS AND 3 ROUTERS BECAUSE ACCORDING TO EVERYONE AT MEDICOM THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. BUT AFTER REPLACING MODEMS, ROUTERS, CABLES, AND CABLE ENDS, THE ISSUES WAS STILL THERE. SOME OF THOSE TECHS ON THE PHONE HAVE NO IDEA, THEY JUST GO BY SCRIPT. LIKE GOD DAMN ROBOTS. I WISH THERE WAS ANOTHER OPTION BECAUSE I WOULDNT NEVER LOOK BACK. HORRIBLE SERVICE! IT TOOK ME 5 MONTHS OF CHASING THEM AROUND LAST TIME I HAD THIS SAME ISSUE. MILLION OF TECHS ENTER THE HOUSE TO CHECK THE SAME SHIT THAT THE ONE BEFORE THEM CHECKED. I REMEMBER SHOWING THE MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR PROOF OF MY LATENCY AND CONNECTION ISSUES AND HIM TELLING ME THAT NOBODY ELSE IS COMPLAINING BUT ME. THEN I SEND HIM A SCREENSHOT OF THE FACEBOOK GROUP FROM MY NEIGHBORHOOD THAT WAS CREATED BY PEOPLE EXPERIENCING MEDIACOM ISSUES AND THEN HE IGNORES ME. THIS COMPANY IS DISGUSTING. I WILL BE POSTING ALOT MORE OF THIS ON OTHER SOCIAL MEDIA SITES.

[Cable HSI] Upgraded to DOCSIS 3.1 modem but lost IPv6

I got the email about upgrading my modem to a DOCSYS 3.1 modem, so I upgraded from a Motorola MB7420 modem to a Motorola MB8600 modem. The modem is on the list of recommended modems. After the upgrade, I lost IPv6. Any suggestions on how to get it back? I've attached the software info provided by the modem.

[Cable HSI] Ditch the splitter?

I have a 3-way splitter just inside my wall that I don’t need to have installed anymore. All I have from Mediacom is the HSI, so there’s one cable going to my modem, one cable going to the back of my TV (that’s not even being used), and one cable that’s just hanging off the splitter with nothing connected to the other end. I have a Mediacom appt. set up for Thursday because my connection just doesn’t seem to want to stay up for longer than 30 minutes during the day, and I’m wondering if I should talk to the tech about getting rid of the splitter (it’s Mediacom’s equipment, originally) while s/he is here?

[IA] New Ames subdivision with linear QAM and customer owned equipment

I happen to live in the Ames neighborhood (Sunset Ridge) that has the new linear launch. As part of this they said I was not able to use my media center PC and Ceton cablecard tuners I have been using for years. The only reason I have stayed with cable this long has been due to the support of cablecard. Looking at the TiVo they sent me, it appears this is nothing more than linear QAM or "switched" digital video. When a box in my house requests a channel the channel is sent in an open channel within the QAM channel space. I know there are markets around the country where providers are willing to supply tuning adapters so customers can continue to use their personally owned equipment (e.g. TiVo) with this switched QAM setup. Is it possible that Mediacom could provide me with a tuning adapter and I could go back to using my cablecard tuners instead of the 1TB TiVo set top box?

[AL] Mediacom Outages and Support Experiences - RCAs related to Outages?

$

Why is there such a lag between Mediacom support and the operational reality on the ground? I feel like I'm in the Movie, Groundhog Day where we have exactly the same support experiences... over.. and over.. For example: Yesterday (and today), middle of the workday - our internet goes out, my ping loops to google DNS show dropped packets for 20 minutes or so, followed by a hard down. I contact support and it always goes something like this: -- Customer: Hey it looks like our internet is down? MediaCom Support: Have you restarted your modem? Customer: Absolutely. MediaCom Support: I Don't see any outages in your area. Customer: Eh, just checked nextdoor looks like it is more than me. MediaCom Support: I see a problem with your modem signal, we should schedule a call. Customer: Really? Because I'm looking at the upstream and downstream signal to noise ratio too and they look decent to me. Which channels are standing out to you? MediaCom Support: Before I can schedule your service call, I wanted to let you know that for safety reasons and to help maintain social distance, the technician will attempt to troubleshoot from outside your location. The technician may need assistance from someone within your home to restore services. The technician will only enter the home if absolutely necessary and will maintain distance for everyone’s safety. If no issues are found on site, there will be a $49 service charge set from the technician, please keep in mind this is if NO ISSUSES are found on site. Is this ok to set the appointment? Yes or No? --Copy pasta from today Customer: So, you want to charge me for this outage. Cool, schedule the appointment I just want it fixed. -- Ultimately.. a few hours later the service comes back on its own and the text flurry begins trying to cancel the service appointment, which I tend to oblige. In my area this service isn't dependable, the speed is half what I pay for directly at the cable modem lan port and the customer service is a frustrating mix between talking to a robot acting like a human and a human acting like a robot. I don't have any other choices at my address for broadband. I'm stuck in this Circus. Mediacom wants to set up an appointment for a problem they've (possibly) caused and will have fixed by appointment time, then charge me for that appointment if their network is functioning during the appointment but also not communicate to me the causes of failures. Even Stalin would raise a bushy eyebrow and think "not fair, Comrad." Something that would be valuable to me would be a Root Cause Analysis of outages. The uncharitable explanation would be: Really... really really fragile network and backhaul. The charitable explanation would be that in many cases these outages are Mediacom employees deliberately maintaining the network but these outages aren't communicated to support and never show up scheduled maintenance alerts on the portal. When we ask the support people for a Root Cause Analysis, they never can provide any and just parrot the same "check the app" line. If I had a root cause analysis of each outage, a one-liner like "techs were replacing failed hardware at the nearby ops plant and will continue this work throughout the week"; I could at very least plan meetings and software releases and cloud network maintenance periods around these known, deliberate outages. But, see I can't get honest answers from anyone. No one wants to ADMIT to taking the service down for un(publicly)scheduled maintenance. Ultimately, I'm not trying to bust anyone down here, I just really want to know: Am I in the beginning of another 3 week sporadic up and down cycle that drives us off Mediacom and onto LTE temporarily or am I on the proverbial back-9, network improvements are made and completed and we anticipate smooth sailing for the next few weeks. umm.. sorry for the mixed metaphor. Is there any path out of this hellscape? Is there a secret handshake I can use to get real answers for a change?

I can't remember the url to access teh config file for the modem, I'm pretty sure it was 192.168.100.1/main.html but now that the new firmware has the modem password protected you can't access it anymore, I'm always thrown to the login page. Current firmware AB01.01.009.51_080720_183.0A.NSH

[IL] New Arris modem and router; download speeds went down the toilet

Upload speeds are still relatively terrific: https://i.imgur.com/zFft74u.png (Ping: 14ms, Down: 3.6Mbps, Up: 16.5 Mbps) I'm on Mediacom's second highest tier, so this is really frustrating. I've connected directly to the modem and here's a couple of screenshots of the downstream and upstream bonded channels: Downstream - https://i.imgur.com/CNnvz8w.png Upstream - https://i.imgur.com/QykNJWX.png I chatted with a Mediacom rep about an hour ago asking if there was some setting or tweak I needed to make to the modem, as apparently this new hookup is clearly having some issues, but they just advised that it would be best to get a tech out here. I've made an appointment, but I'm hoping that won't be necessary if there's something I can do here, but there doesn't appear to be much in the Arris gateway to fiddle with. Can anyone help me here or should I just go forward with the tech visit?

1 Gbps without overhead

So, As we all know, 1Gbps is ~ 940 or so (880 at night it seems) What do I/Mediacom need to do to prepare for the next wave of broadband speed increases? Mediacom is doing a lot to kick 3.0 modems only off the network so I have a feeling next year this are about to get crazy stupid fast I currently have an MB 8600 modem so I can in theory have port bonding. However, I don't think IPFire can do port bonding yet. Anyone know if PFSense can? My PC is ready for it as it has 2 2.5Gb Intel NIC's but I also need a switch as well I was thinking something like this https://www.newegg.com/netgear-xs505m-100nas-4-x-10-gig-multi-gig-copper-ports-1-x-sfp-ports/p/N82E16833122953 I also have Cat8 cable Thoughts?

[MN] IPv6 Prefix Delegation No Longer Available?

$

I have had functioning IPv6 from Mediacom for quite a few years now. I used to get an IPv6 subnet assigned to my router via IPv6-PD. Then last December Mediacom gave us all a speed boost and at about that time I lost IPv6 completely. Then a few days later I got some IPv6 back in the form of a single /128 IPv6 address for my router. Since then I have been unable to get any ipv6 delegated prefix on my router. I am using an old Apple Airport and I don't think there have been software updates for that in ages. Anyone else experience anything similar? Is IPv6 with prefix delegation working for you? So far I have not been able to reach the right person at Mediacom that understands IPv6 and how it should work. Perhaps Mediacom pushed out a software update to my cable modem which is now blocking it? ( Cable modem is a Mediacom owned Technicolor DOCSIS 3.1 Wireless Gateway ) but I am not using it as a router or wifi gateway and never have.

I just bought a new house and only bad thing is Mediacom telling me it could be months for me to get internet. They have had techs out here and have the green cable boxes done. My kids need the internet for school and I do some work remotely. No other provider is in the area as well.

[AL] Trouble getting a drop installed

So me and my friend are trying to get a drop+service installed into a house he just bought/restored. We have been waiting 4+ weeks for a reply back from mediacom with no word. We know that the house should be able to get service since all the surrounding next door neighbors on all sides can get service and that a rep said that we should. Just trying to get something better than hotspot. I appreciate any help

If coax removed from cable modem, should I terminate the end?

If there is a bad thunderstorm in the area, and I want to remove the coax from the cable modem to avoid it getting damaged, should I terminate the plug to avoid causing some sort of network imbalance or interference? If so, what should I buy?
