How the I calculate the true cost of Mediacom 1Gb service when you factor in they charge $10 for every 50Gb over?
We have 2 other area providers & both Windstream and MCG are offering FTTH. MCG has a 2Gb plan of which I'm signing up for next year.
for $99

[IL] Mediacom Ping Spikes/Packet Loss
I am having trouble with high latency spikes up to (200-800) , I have called Mediacom and complained multiple times and the issue still hasn't been fixed. The issue has been happening for multiple days now and is getting really annoying especially while gaming.
Note: I am using a older modem (2013) and have a new one coming on Thursday, I don't know if its the modem, or a setting on my router.
This is Northern Illinois

Huge latency spikes under load.
So I noticed some varying ping speeds yesterday while playing Apex Legends. I've had issues in the past so called a tech to see what may be the issue. Explained the high ping and they told me to run a speed test on fast.com to check what the issue may be. Posted a screenshot of the results.
Should also say that I ran the same speed test with my PC plugged directly into the modem, bypassing the router. It seemed to clear up at first and then consecutive tests got as high as 300+ ms latency under load.
I'm not sure what this is telling me but 225 ms latency under load seems very high. We checked modem signals and everything looks fine. Signal coming to the house is good, no real errors to speak of. Could this be a routing issue on Mediacom's part?

[MN] Intermittent service again today
Started with the upstream going completely dead, couldn't get a speed test to complete and loading web pages you have to hit refresh thirty times to get the request to the server. Now the downstream is dying. Reset modem, checked signal levels everything looks good but speed isn't there. Tried the support contact through the app and texted, the customer service rep did a mic drop on me saying to contact the manufacturer of my my modem cause signals look fine, didn't care at all about speed issues.
Mediacom fix this, getting sick of the issues lately.

If coax removed from cable modem, should I terminate the end?
If there is a bad thunderstorm in the area, and I want to remove the coax from the cable modem to avoid it getting damaged, should I terminate the plug to avoid causing some sort of network imbalance or interference?
If so, what should I buy?

[IL] Retention / Loyalty
Anyone else get the runaround when speaking with the Loyalty / Retention department about getting a better price? I've called in three times now, and each time I've been told a separate amount, but what they change is never reflected on the amount due. It's still at $139.99 for just Gig internet. It's like they say they will give me a better price, but never do it.

[CA] Mediacom - Internet speeds slow
So I have been with Mediacom , Xtreme for about 2 years.
And well my internet speed was really bad at first. Had technicians come and it got a little better.
Upgraded my plan to the 1g plan 1,000Mbps download and 50mbps upload 6tb usage.
Well I haven't got close to the speeds I should be getting. I attached a screenshot under of my speeds and latency. I play a lot of games so low ping and higher internet is speed and want to get what I paid for. I have been getting pretty high ping 50-70 ranges in all my games. My other provider never had this issue with them but I moved out of their supported area and Mediacom is the only one available here.
I would like to know what I should do to fix this issue. It's not fun lagging around.

[RANT] 40% price increase (non-promo) for what reason exactly?
Yes I live under a rock. This month my non-promo (regular rate) went from $99/mo to $139/mo. A 40% increase in service price with no corresponding benefits. The best part is that there's exactly nothing I can do. I have no other service providers available to me despite my local utility putting up fiber on the pole in my front yard - yeah, let's talk about that for a sec. I can't get their internet service because it was built out in our area using grant money, said grant money has the stipulation that they can't use it to overbuild in an already serviced location. Thanks lobbyists.
Downgrading also isn't a possibility because of Mediacom's ridiculous caps (we're a streaming family, downgrading to the next tier down would put us at risk of going over the cap every month).
20 miles away is a city (also serviced by mediacom) which has plenty of options. Comcast, AT&T fiber, WOW, Google fiber, just to name a few. And yet because I'm rural, I get to pay 40% more for exactly the same service I had last year.
Thanks for lamenting with me. Or not. tl;dr - I'm just here to rant.

[MO] Slow/Intermittent Internet - Battlefield, MO
This has gotten a little complicated for troubleshooting, so I'll start from this week's power outage.
Our neighborhood power went out a few nights ago and when our power came back up, I was able to ping out to the world, but couldn't browse without getting an Xtreme initial setup landing page. A tech came out the other day and found that our modem was registered under a different name. Oddly, we've had many power outages since installing that modem over a year ago and have never seen this. Regardless, it solved the issue.
Flash forward to last night and you guessed it. Another power outage. I called Mediacom the next morning and explained what was happening. After being blamed for the issue and threatened to be charged because I'm calling a tech I don't need, I decided I would rather try to wait it out since I had business outside of my home office for the day anyway.
I have an Asus 3100 AC router and a SB8200 (D3.1) modem. I have power cycled both units multiple times (ten seconds to clear them). Direct wired connection gives similar results to routed signals. Only DSL Reports speed test will even begin without an error, but drops from disconnect. I'm getting very high latencies from 400-1000ms on speed test or pings to Google.
Haven't personally checked bonding yet, but last tech said it was looking pretty good.

[IA] Lost internet today
I lost internet today. The downstream channel power is at -17.5 dbmv or greater(lesser) and will not connect to upstream at all. Phone reps have tried a lot of things with me. I have switched to a different modem(yes I did get it provisioned) and received the same issue.
My wife and I work from home. We need our internet to work and we need someone to come out and fix what appears to be not be a "me" issue but a mediacom issue with their hardware in my direct neighrborhood.
The one tech earlier said there is only 1 other person in my neighborhood who has mediacom. He told me that address, it is literally 200+ yards from house on a "different" street.
Things have been going well for almost 15 months, but ever since a few weeks ago when I had tech come out, everything has started to go down hill.
I would switch providers but there are literally no other providers in my area (CL is only offering 40 down and with installs dates over 2 weeks out).
Can someone help me? Current tech is scheduled for Monday, that is 5 days away.
This can literally cost my wife and I our jobs over this competence.

why can't CSRs know what is happening in an area?
All this morning my corporate VPN was disconnecting and reconnecting to the point of not being able to work, and some of the time I could see the modem LEDs flashing funny. (I work from home.)
Power cycling with coax removal didn't help, so I called for help. The CSR found some readings she didn't like, and sent a signal to the modem. That didn't help, so she scheduled a tech visit for tomorrow, as I was the only one with a problem in the area. And I took the rest of the day off work, as the VPN would not stay connected. But I spent quite a while testing my home computer vs. the work computer behavior, as something didn't seem to match.
So, looking out the window I saw a spinning yellow light on an Xtream truck down the street, and walked down to talk, and saw yet another ladder truck. They are in the neighborhood since the whole area has a noise problem they want to fix ahead of the tropical storm on they way.
It would have been nice to have been told that while on the phone.
(I got one of those silly survey followup calls on my phone, but entered the rant here, instead.)

POP3 and IMAP SSL Issues
Sometime last week gmail stopped pulling emails from my mediacom email (***@mchsi.com). Gmail reports the following error:
SSL Security Error. [ Help ]
Server returned error "SSL error: No path found from the leaf certificate to any root. Maybe an int..."
I've tried the address and ports listed on http://mediacomcc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/286/~/pop3-vs.-imap-%2F-email-server-settings and get the same errors.
Did someone mess with the site certificates? Is there a new pop3 address that needs to be used?
P.S. Mediacom's forgot password page is also broken and returning a JSONValue cannot be cast to JSONString exception.

Modem suggestions
Hey guys, I'm looking to buy a modem so I don't have to continue paying the rental fee on mediacoms one I'm currently using.
Which do you guys use? And is there any to avoid/shouldn't buy?
Thanks!

Tivo Mini
Going to run a coax from box outside house (comes from the pole) 20' into garage.
Called Mediacom and she said she will send a Tivo Mini. Will this work okay?
I don't want internet, streaming or any of that, just shows on regular cable.
Thanks

[GA] 3x technicians will not fix internet
I have had 3 different technicians come out to my house to resolve intermittent internet issues. None have resolved the issue. Always returns within an hour of them leaving. Tech 2 and Tech 3 close their tickets instead of escalating it to maintenence like the tell me. Every time I call Mediacom, after the issue returns when the tech leave all they can do is send another tech which the soonest is 1 week out. This can't be normal is it? How do I get reliable service technicians?

Per usual - internet upload dead again - mediacom ignoring - SW CR
Just putting it out there in case others have seen this as well, but I'm in SW Cedar Rapids and mediacom has been crapping out yet again on the upload side of things. Should be getting 50, but maybe get 4-5. Customer service says no one else has complained, yet I've had "supervisors" out to my house previously for the same issue and was told it's not on my end.
God I wish there was a decent alternative around here like Cedar Falls has.
